New Whole Foods Flagship Opens on Fairfax Nov. 11

Angelenos shopping for groceries on Fairfax Avenue are about to get a major upgrade. Whole Foods Market is opening a brand-new, 63,082-square-foot flagship store at 355 S. Ogden Drive on November 11, replacing the original Fairfax location that has served the neighborhood since 2002. The new store sits inside the Bloom on Third shopping center, at the busy corner of 3rd and Fairfax, and comes with a parking structure holding more than 600 spaces — a notable upgrade for an area where parking has long been a headache for shoppers and nearby small businesses alike.

Beyond sheer size, the new flagship is leaning hard into experience. Shoppers will find a taproom pouring wine by the glass and draft beer from local breweries, with tasting events planned for November 14 and 21. Next door, a dedicated charcuterie counter will be staffed by trained cheesemongers, including a Certified Cheese Professional. There’s also a coffee and juice bar, an expanded floral department, a made-to-order sandwich counter, a hot food “Market Plate” station, and sushi from Kikka Sushi.

For LA-area business owners, the opening is worth watching for a few reasons. More than 1,900 items on the shelves come from California-based suppliers, giving local food and beverage brands a high-visibility shelf at one of the city’s busiest retail corners. The store’s wine and beer selection — over 780 wines and 600 craft beers — also signals continued demand for local and independent producers inside big retail formats, a trend smaller LA makers can look to tap into through wholesale and consignment relationships. Whole Foods is also extending a low-interest loan to Reprise Health as part of its supplier lending program, a reminder that major chains increasingly help fund growth for the smaller companies that stock their shelves.

The opening comes with its own round of neighborhood goodwill: Whole Foods is donating food and funds to Food Cycle LA, and the first 300 customers in line on opening day get a limited-edition tote bag (the first 100 get a mini version), while shoppers can grab a Secret Saver coupon worth up to $100 off. Doors open at 9 a.m. on November 11, with regular hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily afterward.

For a corridor that’s seen plenty of retail turnover in recent years, a flagship-scale reinvestment like this is a meaningful vote of confidence in Fairfax Avenue’s pull as a shopping destination — good news for the restaurants, boutiques, and service businesses that share the block.
