Hollywood Burbank Airport’s $1.3B Terminal Opens Oct. 13

Los Angeles-area travelers and business owners have a big reason to pay attention this month: Hollywood Burbank Airport’s new $1.3 billion passenger terminal opens to the public on October 13, 2026, marking one of the largest infrastructure upgrades the San Fernando Valley and Tri-City region has seen in decades.

The 355,000-square-foot terminal, financed entirely through airport revenue bonds, federal grants, Passenger Facility Charge revenue, and Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority funds (no state, county, or city tax dollars involved), replaces the airport’s aging original terminal. It keeps the airport’s current 14 gates rather than expanding capacity, with Authority leadership emphasizing the project is about meeting modern safety, seismic, and accessibility standards rather than growing passenger volume.

For the local business community, the new terminal brings more than smoother check-ins. A new on-site parking garage opens alongside the terminal, and travelers will find well-known Pasadena-area dining names among the concession offerings, giving regional brands fresh visibility to the millions of passengers who move through Hollywood Burbank Airport each year. Ground transportation, including rental cars, will route through the Regional Intermodal Transit Center with shuttle service to the new terminal.

The project also includes a public art installation by artist Glenn Kaino honoring Japanese Americans who were interned during World War II, adding a cultural landmark to the airport experience.

Pasadena City Councilmember Tyron Hampton, elected president of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority this past July, has led the project through its final stretch. For businesses across Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and the greater San Fernando Valley, an easier, more modern airport means fewer travel headaches for clients, staff, and visitors flying in and out of the region, plus a fresh wave of attention on the airport corridor as the opening date approaches.

Local business owners who rely on business travel, client visits, or airport-adjacent foot traffic may want to plan around the October 13 opening, whether that means updating travel logistics for out-of-town meetings or simply being ready for the extra buzz the milestone is likely to bring to the area.
