Pacific Palisades business owners got some good news this week: City National Bank has reopened its branch at 15273 W. Sunset Blvd., nearly two years after the January 2025 Palisades Fire forced it to close, and more than a decade after the branch first opened in the neighborhood.
The 1,423-square-foot branch, which reopened its doors Tuesday, includes two private consultation rooms, an ATM, and three service desks, giving residents a full-service banking option back on one of the Palisades’ main commercial corridors. The reopening follows the broader revival of Palisades Village, the open-air shopping center that reopened in August after months of fire-recovery rebuilding.
For small business owners in the area, having a local branch back in operation means easier access to the everyday banking that keeps a business running, from deposits and payroll to loans and lines of credit. Branch manager Evelyn Peera said the location is built for exactly that kind of walk-in need, whether someone wants to refinance a mortgage, apply for a business loan, or simply sit down with a banker face to face.
City National and its parent company, Royal Bank of Canada, also put real money behind the Palisades recovery, donating a combined $3 million to fire relief efforts and offering fire-affected customers a three-year forbearance period on mortgages and home equity lines of credit. Commitments like those matter in a neighborhood where many homeowners and business operators are still rebuilding, both literally and financially, nearly two years after the fire tore through the community.
The branch’s return is a small but telling sign of how far the Palisades commercial district has come. Storefronts that sat dark for months are slowly filling back in, and a bank reopening its doors is the kind of everyday infrastructure that lets other nearby businesses function normally again. Commercial recovery after a disaster isn’t just about rebuilding buildings — it’s about restoring the services a business district depends on day to day.
For LA-area entrepreneurs watching the Palisades rebound, it’s also a useful case study in resilience, and in how banks, landlords, and local businesses can work together to bring a commercial corridor back to life.
